Jumping hour watches are having a moment again. Once a niche complication associated with early 20th-century design and experimental layouts, they’ve recently re-emerged as a quiet alternative to traditional dials — a way for brands to rethink how time is displayed without drifting into gimmickry.

Bremont’s take on the trend has always felt grounded rather than theatrical. And with the new Terra Nova 38 Jumping Hour Stealth Black, that approach becomes sharper, darker, and more confident.

Rendered entirely in black DLC-coated 904L steel, the Terra Nova 38 Jumping Hour Stealth Black shifts the character of the watch without changing its core idea. The result is more graphic and focused — but still rooted in the practical, tool-watch DNA that defines the Terra Nova line.

Modern Case, Old References

When the Terra Nova collection launched in 2024, it drew on early 20th-century trench and pocket watches, translating their cushion-shaped cases and compact proportions into a modern format. The 38mm case, short lugs, and slim profile make it wearable in a way that feels deliberate rather than nostalgic.

In black, those proportions stand out more. The DLC coating isn’t just aesthetic — it adds scratch and corrosion resistance to the already robust 904L steel, giving the watch a finish that feels purposeful rather than decorative.

The Appeal of the BREMONT Jumping Hour

The jumping hour display is the watch’s defining feature. Instead of hands, hours and minutes appear through vertical windows — a nod to early Montres à Guichet designs, reworked with contemporary clarity.

On the Stealth Black version, the contrast is crisp without being aggressive. White numerals on black discs keep the display legible, while the central seconds hand — shaped like a compass point and filled with green Super-LumiNova — adds a small but distinctive detail.

Powering it is the BC634 movement, developed with Sellita. The hour jumps instantly in under a tenth of a second — a technically complex mechanism presented in a way that feels effortless and understated.

Straps that Change the Mood

Bremont offers two strap options, each pushing the watch in a different direction. The black DLC-coated bracelet feels clean and contemporary, while the leather bund strap leans into the watch’s historical references.

Originally used by pilots and later adopted by mountaineers, the bund strap is practical as much as it is nostalgic. Remove the bund, and the watch shifts back toward a more classic look — effectively giving the Terra Nova two personalities in one.

Evolution, Not Reinvention

After the bronze limited edition in early 2025 and the steel version later that year, the Stealth Black model feels less like another colorway and more like a recalibration of the design.

It doesn’t try to be louder. It just feels more focused.

The Terra Nova 38 Jumping Hour Stealth Black is still a field watch at heart — just one that’s comfortable playing with form, complication, and mood. It’s a reminder that utility and experimentation don’t have to sit at opposite ends of watch design.
